Spinal Conditions

Minimising the Effects of Spinal Conditions

There are many spinal conditions that we are either born with, or that arise as we grow and mature. I have worked with many and generally we are able to improve mobility, structural balance, reduce pain and restriction. Where surgery has already occured it is often still possible to reduce pain and improve mobiity. There may well be imposed limits on how much we can achieve, and i will work with you to set safe levels to work to. I may need to liase with your Surgeon (with your permission) to confirm many fine details about what was done and how.

Scoliosis or a lateral curvature is not unusual, especially in women. When minimal, it often goes undiagnosed and unnoticed. However some people have a very pronounced and visible lateral spiral curve that disrupts structure and movement. This scoliotic spiralling pattern is NOT just about the spine – it is reflected throughout the ribs, the entire soft tissue container of the lungs and heart, and all surrounding musculature and fascias. The shoulders and pelvis are also affected in how they interface with the scoliotic torso. Whilst it may be impossible to unwind a complex scoliosis, it is possible to optimise structure and movement around it and through it, freducing pain and increasing mobility in the process.

Spinal conditions I work with include:

  • Disc Herniation
  • Discectomy
  • Laminectomy
  • Spinal Fusions – Screws, Plates and Cages
  • Schuermanns Kyphosis
  • Pectus Excavatum
  • Scoliosis with and without Harrington Rods
  • Minimise scoliosis patterning where possible
  • Maximise movement freedom and agility rather than let the condition unnecessarily restrict you
  • Get to know your unique body better and appreciate deeply how you can best live in it even when there are unchangeable restrictions
  • Reduce pain and discomfort in daily and specialised activities
  • Minimise ongoing structural compensations later in life
  • Enhance your own self-care ability
  • Improve self confidence and engagement in life generally
